George Freeman
A graduate of Cambridge University, George has 14 years of experience of setting up, managing and financing early stage ventures. Formerly Director of Early Stage Ventures and one of the founder team at Merlin Biosciences in the 1990s, he was closely involved in the formation and funding of a number of well known UK biotech start-ups including Ark Therapeutics, Vectura, Microscience, Biovex, and Amedis Pharmaceuticals. Between 1999 and 2001 he sat on the boards of a number of these companies overseeing recruitment of senior management and Directors. In 2001 he left Merlin to set up Amedis Pharmaceuticals, the predictive toxicology and medicinal chemistry start-up sold to Paradigm (subsequently) Takeda in 2004. In 2005 he set up Cambridge based 4D Biomedical, the biomedical ventures advisory business specialising in Experimental Medicine, and has been closely involved in setting up a number of UK Academic Health Science Centres and specialist TRU's (Translational Research Units). George now represents the newly formed constituency of Mid-Norfolk as a Conservative MP in Parliament.
